I swear, there’s something so undeniably charming about the audio and video quality of 80’s and early 90’s /anything/. I can’t even explain it. That slight warble to everyone’s voice like they’re speaking through an out of tune piano… the sort of fuzzy lines.. little visible chunks of dust on the cel. It’s all aesthetically beautiful to me

Maybe it IS nostalgia speaking, it does make me feel very nostalgic, but I think there’s something else to it too

Well, I’m 22, but see: my parents recorded a ton of cartoons for my brother on VHS when he was younger. He’s 30.
I’d estimate there were at least 10 VHS tapes we had with random cartoons on them.
I grew up watching those VHSes over and over. There were several episodes of this cartoon on it.
Also on the VHS tapes of magic and mystery: Hidei of the alps, scamper the penguin, serindipity, Jaycee and the wheeled warriors, transformers, so many episodes of my little pony, rainbow brite, the smurfs and yadayada you get the idea.
We’d both skip over certain shows when we watched them: He’d skip over the girly ones like rainbow brite, and I took a pass on jaycee and transformers, ect.

It was magical

We also had all the rankin bass christmas specials bootlegged too
And Honey I shrunk the Kids
Several other movies I can’t remember

In addition, during the 90’s, my parents VHS recorded every episode of The Magic School Bus for me: and sometimes half of an Arthur episode, if they started the recording early.

I try to dig deep into the well of my subconscious. At a certain moment in that process, the lid is opened and very different ideas and visions are liberated. With those I can start making a film. But maybe it’s better that you don’t open that lid completely, because if you release your subconscious it becomes really hard to live a social or family life.
