The thief and the cobbler
Ladies and gentlemen, a film that spent over 30 years in production and still didn’t get finished
The reason why this film took so frigging long was because Richard Williams used 200+ frames per second. Now… the standard animated film uses 72 frames per second. Richard Williams, who I gather from his book on animation, is a huge fan of “you need to put as much life in your characters as you can” theory of animation.
Boy howdy does Thief and Cobbler show it.
Now, since this is an unfinished movie, unfinished scenes are filled in with storyboards. There is little to no dialogue (some by vincent price!) but it doesn’t need it. Motion tells the story.
By the way you absolutely must see the Recobbled Cut Version of this film. Do not see any other version of this film. You will regret it. They tried to put monologues in it. WHY
